Studio Potter: Jenn Fincannon
Hi, I’m Jenn, I also go by Finn, or @ThrowinnFinn on social media. I am a local artist born and raised here in Jacksonville, NC. I am currently finishing up my Bachelor’s with a major in Studio Art at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. I have been drawing and painting since I was a small child. I grew up knowing that I wanted to spend my life doing something creative.
After graduating from Northside High School in 2011 I went to Coastal Carolina Community College unsure of the direction I wanted to take in life and in art. Over the last decade I have learned a lot about myself and art, and what interests me and motivates me to live a creative and colorful life! I took my first ceramics class in 2018 right when I was finishing up my Associate’s degree in Fine Art. I became immersed and obsessed with all the endless possibilities and the process of creating work from clay. I have hand built pots with coils and slabs as well as throwing and making functional pottery on the wheel. I knew then that my education could not end there, and I moved on to UNCW where I expanded my artistic skills in all of my favorite mediums, ceramics (or pottery), painting, and printmaking. When I’m not working with clay, or paint, I enjoy crafting and experimenting with many other mediums that I am less familiar with. I have dabbled in knitting and crocheting, and quilting with my mother. I have also worked with resin and made welded sculptures out of steel. I have had my work exhibited in a few art shows/galleries and would like to continue to exhibit my work in that way, however, my main goal as an artist/potter would be to own a multi-medium home pottery and painting studio where I could run my own independent business.
