Introduction to Visual Journaling
Sat. Feb 15th, 4-6pm
This class is for the beginning artist who wants to learn about some of the basic techniques of art journaling. How do you get started? What kind of books or supplies are needed? How do you get ideas? What goes in a visual journal?
Art journaling is not just for experienced artists! If you are looking for a way to relax, to document your world, to doodle, to do something with your hands..... art journaling might be for you. Warning- it can be addictive!
In this introductory workshop participants will be guided through several activities that will show you just some of the endless possibilities for art journaling. Participants will leave with brains brimming over with ideas and the beginnings of several great spreads in your book, not to mention a lovely goody bag!
Artworks carries a small selection of art journals or you can select your own to bring with you. I recommend a hard bound book with thick pages that can stand up to mixed media.
Class time is scheduled for 4-6pm but you are welcome to stay later!
Felting- "Grab and Go" Bag
Sat. Feb. 29th, 10am-2pm
Felting is a beautiful process that combines and compresses wet wool, ribbon, yarn, and other luscious materials to create a work of art! In this 4 hour workshop participants will be guided in the steps of making a small purse. Marge S. created the items in the photos and is excited to introduce you to this process.
Marge is a retired art educator who taught at Lejeune High School for many years. She will provide all materials, although if you would like to bring some wool yarn of your own you are welcome to. You will need to bring a container for water ( a small bucket) and a towel.
Since this workshop is four hours long, you are welcome to leave and get lunch, or bring your lunch with you.
Class size is limited to 6 participants.
Sacred Symbols Printmaking
Sat. Feb. 22nd 4-6pm & Sat. Feb. 29th 4-6pm
Align your visual energy with your personal energy!
Do you have a particular shape, image or pattern that you always seem to be drawn to? It might just be your sacred symbol! In this workshop, which is part one of two, we will have a brief discussion of sacred symbols, and then do some research to discover which ones we are powerfully drawn to. You will be given some design tips to help you with your search. Create your own portal of possibilities, and then listen and feel which images resonate with you. An abundance of resources with symbols, symbolism and art will be available to you, as well as a resource packet of your own to take home. You will know once you have selected "your" symbol, as it will resonate deeply within you!
(Part 2 of this class will involve transferring your sacred symbol design to linoleum, and printing it on colored fabrics. This class will be limited to no more than 10 participants, and you will be invited to exchange your symbols with each other as symbols of goodwill and peace. Participants can then create prayer flags or other types of art with your beautiful collection of symbols.)
PLEASE NOTE- you are registering for Part I and II. Part II is where we will carve the linoleum symbols and print them on fabrics.
Price includes resources, linoleum to carve, printing ink, and an assortment of colored fabrics, and four hours of instruction & assistance. <3
