We offer opportunities to play in the clay, mess in the 'mudd', and do some hand building or wheel throwing!
WHEEL THROWING
Whether you are interested in learning for the first time or you have done it before, we have several options for you to explore.
THROWING TASTER SESSION
A two hour introductory session for those who are absolute beginners - you will learn the very basics of throwing on the potters wheel. This will include a quick overview of the basics of the wheel - from centering your clay, pulling, shaping and working with your tools, beginning to learn the techniques of throwing bowls. This is a fun and quick way to introduce yourself to throwing on the wheel and is suitable for complete beginners.
This is a fantastic way to enjoy and learn the age old art of the potters wheel and is the perfect option for a date night or girls night out. This gives you the option to try something new, cross something off your bucket list, and let you decide if you want to continue with additional lessons. Throwing on the wheel is not something that you can usually learn in one lesson (centering can be challenging!) so please keep in mind that you may or may not leave with a completed project. The taster session includes 90 minutes of instruction. We respectfully ask that you clean up your wheel and clay after the 90 minute session. COST: $65 per person which includes 5 pounds of clay each, the use of all tools, wheel, and instruction as well as the first initial bisque firing. Select your preferred date and time from the calendar and reserve your spot today! We have two wheels. (TIP: Wear old clothes that you won't mind getting dirty!) Please note: You will need to return within a week to "trim" your pots, or you can pay Jenn a $10 fee to do it for you. This eliminates the extra heavy clay at the bottom of your pot and improves the appearance and weight. GLAZING
There will be a fee for glazing and the second firing of your work. The rate begins at $5 and then the rest is calculated upon so many cents per square inch. OPEN WHEEL SIGN UPS Getting stuck in the mudd? Need more practice? Come in and spin some solo time on the wheel. E-mail us at artworksnc@gmail.com- or take a chance on walking in during open hours. This is your chance to work on the fundamentals that you learned in our throwing classes and grow that muscle memory. $10 per hour, plus the clay that you purchase Please Note:*We do apologize, but we do not fire work made outside of the studio. *Our recommended age for being able to throw on the wheel is 12 years old, but we have had younger students. *All clay pieces need approximately a week or two to dry before they will be fired. *If you do not return within 30 days to trim your work, and you have indicated that you would return to trim the pots, then we reserve the right to return your clay pieces to the recycling bin. *Any glazed pieces left for over 30 days and not picked up will be sold for hundreds of dollars so we can go on a fantastic cruise........ or discarded so we can have the space! :) |
